6.12.2016; As part of the plan to move towards cashless economy, the Government has decided that an additional one million new PoS terminals should be installed by 31st March 2017. Towards this end, banks have already placed orders for 6 lakh PoS machines and another 4 lakh PoS machines are likely to be ordered in the next few days. The country today has about 15 lakh PoS terminals across different merchants to facilitate card based payments.

6.12.2016; income Tax (IT) Department carries-out swift investigations in more than 400 cases since the de-monetization of old High Denomination (OHD) currency on 8th November, 2016; More than Rs. 130 crore in cash and jewellery seized and approximately Rs. 2,000 crore of Undisclosed Income admitted by the taxpayers; IT Department refers large number of cases with serious irregularities detected Post De-monetization to Enforcement Directorate (ED) & CBI.

28.11.2016; Modi Government with a view to increase LPG coverage to 75% by 2019 and to provide LPG connections to poor household, had launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Under PMUY, 5 crore new LPG connections are to be given over a period of three years starting from 2016-17 to BPL households identified through SECC data. work is on at war footing. Currently selection and commissioning of new distributors is underway in more than 2300 locations. Further advertisement for 400 locations each in the States of UP and Odisha has been released by OMCs.

28.11.2016; Under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Government of India is providing free electricity connections to BPL households. Out of total 4.27 crore connections sanctioned, free electricity connections to 2.5 crore BPL households have been provided as on 31.10.2016.

27.11.2016; Ministry of Urban Development has asked all the statutory 4,041 Urban Local Bodies to shift to e-payments at the earliest. These cities and towns account for about 75% of the total 40 crore urban population in the country.

24.11.2016; The procurement price of LED Bulbs is reduced from Rs 310 per unit in February 2014 to Rs 38 per unit in August 2016 due to the aggregation of demand and bulk procurement.

22.11.2016; Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has granted 'in principle' approval for setting up of 18 new domestic and international Greenfield Airports across the country.

22.11.2016; in another strike on Black money, India signed the‘Joint Declaration’ with  Switzerland, for the implementation of Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) between India and Switzerland here today.  As a result, it will now be possible for India to receive from September, 2019 onwards, the financial information of accounts held by Indian residents in Switzerland for 2018 and subsequent years, on an automatic basis.

21.11.2016; India and European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) signed an agreement today making India an Associate Member State of CERN.

21.11.2016; All India coal production has increased from 565.77 MT in 2013-14 to 639.23 MT in 2015-16. On account of increased production by Coal India Ltd. (CIL) in 2015-16, coal imports have fallen from 217.78 MTs in 2014-15 to 199.88 MTs in 2015-16.

21.11.2016; Modi government has established Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS) for inventorization and condition survey of all bridges on National Highways. It has identified approximately 1500 bridges for construction, reconstruction or strengthening, as required.

20.11.2016; A total length of 4148 km of roads in Naxal affected areas out of 5422 km have been completed in the States of Telengana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh till October 31, 2016. Maximum 54 roads of 1988 km were constructed in Naxal affected areas of Chhattisgarh followed by Bihar 41 and Jharkhand 32 roads.

20.11.2016; Shri Narendra Modi today formally launched “Housing for All” in rural areas under which the Government proposes to provide an environmentally safe and secure pucca house to every rural household by 2022. Named the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin), in its first phase the target is to complete one crore houses by March 2019.

7.11.2016; As part of ongoing judicial reforms and modernisation of courts, Modi government has issued unique identification numbers to 16,795 judges of district and subordinate courts across the country for better monitoring of their judicial functions. Supreme Court and high court judges have been exempted (presumably at their insistance). digital signatures have also been provided to most judges in the district and subordinate judiciary so that they can sign orders while delivering the judgment, which can then be uploaded in real time. Judicial officers have been given laptops, printers and internet connections to facilitate the task.

28.10.2016; The State of Himachal Pradesh was today declared Open Defecation Free (ODF), making it the second State in the country (after Sikkim) to achieve the feat. The State government made the declaration today at a public event in Shimla.

19.10.2016; India's offensive capacity, especially against Pakistan, is set to take a huge step forward with Modi got and Putin deciding to jointly develop a new generation of Brahmos missiles+ with 600 km-plus range with ability to hit targets anywhere in pakistan with pinpoint accuracy. 5.8.2016; Under Modi govt, For first time, Railways have developed a new vacuum toilet like the ones in airplanes to help end the problem of stinking toilets in trains. 

4.8.2016; Modi Government has proposed to set up four new Major Ports viz. Enayam in Tamil Nadu, Sagar in West Bengal, Dugarajpatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Vadhawan in Maharashtra.

Out of these electrified villages, 10 villages belong to Assam, 2 in Bihar, 24 in Jharkhand, 2 in Madhya Pradesh, 123 in Meghalaya, 3 in Nagaland, 15 in Odisha, 7 in Rajasthan, 5 in Uttar Pradesh and 1 in Uttarakhand.1.8.2016; As per the information reported by State/UTs Government upto 15.07.2016, approximately 2.16 crore number of de-duplicated/ghost/ineligible/forged/ fake etc. ration cards have been deleted by the State/UT Governments during the years 2013 to 2016. 

1.8.2016; Modi govt has undertaken preparation of Detailed Project Report(DPR)for up-gradation to 2-lane with paved shoulder of National Highways to provide connectivity to Chardham from Rishikesh leading to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath including Tanakpur-Pithoragarh Section with an estimated Project cost of Rs. 11700 Crore and targeted for completion by 2020. Some of the New Alignments/ Bypasses/ Tunnels/ Viaducts are proposed to avoid landslide prone areas, sinking zones etc. to improve the safety of road users.

1.8.2016; To curb theft and pilferage of people’s money and to reach the PDS kerosene to the real beneficiaries, Modi govt decided to implement Direct Benefit Transfer in Kerosene (DBTK) during 2016-17 in 39 districts identified in consultation with State Governments spread across nine  States  of the country, namely; Punjab, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Haryana and Maharashtra. Other States/UTs have also been requested to join the Scheme. 

31.7.2016; Ministry of external affairs led by VK Singh and MJ Akbar have been sent to Negotiate with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Government on behalf of 800 out of Job Indians over there. The work on such minute level is happening for the First time. 

31.7.2016; For first time, Indian contingent will get to eat what they like. "Earlier, our players used to reach the venue two days ahead of the Games and it was always a daunting task to get acclimatised. This time, we have sent them 15 days before the Games. We also provided a special budget to provide Indian food to our athletes there," said Modi.

“We have spent Rs 30 lakh-Rs1.5 crore per player on training. Olympic budgets earlier used to be around Rs 15-Rs 20 crore. This time it has exceeded Rs 125 crore," Modi said.

Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Culture here today. The present batch of 25 files consists of 25 files from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during 1952-2014.

19.7.2016; Modi govt's steps to bring back/tackle black money;-

(i) Constitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Black Money under Chairmanship and Vice-Chairmanship of two former Judges of Hon’ble Supreme Court,

(ii) Enactment of a comprehensive law – ‘The Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015’ which has come into force w.e.f. 01.07.2015 to specifically and more effectively deal with the issue of black money stashed away abroad,

(iii) Constitution of Multi-Agency Group (MAG) consisting of officers of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for investigation of recent revelations in Panama paper leaks,

(iv) Proactively engaging with foreign governments with a view to facilitate and enhance the exchange of information under Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAAs)/Tax Information Exchange Agreements (TIEAs)/Multilateral Conventions,

(v) According high priority to the cases involving black money stashed away abroad for investigation and other follow-up actions including prosecutions in appropriate cases,

(vi) While focusing upon non-intrusive measures, due emphasis on enforcement measures in high impact cases with a view to prosecute the offenders at the earliest for credible deterrence against tax evasion/black money,

(vii) Proactively furthering global efforts to combat tax evasion/black money, inter alia, by joining the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement in respect of Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) and having information sharing arrangement with USA under its Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA),

(viii) Renegotiation of DTAAs with other countries to bring the Article on Exchange of Information to International Standards and expanding India’s treaty network by signing new DTAAs and TIEAs with many jurisdictions to facilitate the exchange of information and to bring transparency,

(ix) Enabling attachment and confiscation of property equivalent in value held within the country where the property/proceeds of crime is taken or held outside the country by amending the Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002 through the Finance Act, 2015.

30.6.2016; The money held by Indians in Swiss banks has fallen by nearly one-third to a record low of 1.2 billion franc (CHF) or about Rs 8,392 crore amid a continuing clampdown on black money and corruption. The funds held by Indians with banks in Switzerland fell by CHF 596.42 million to CHF 1,217.6 million at the end of 2015, as per the latest data released on Thursday by the country's central banking authority SNB (Swiss National Bank).

29.05.2016 Under Modi Govt, Indian Railways on Sunday conducted the first ever trial run for high-speed Talgo trains of Spain on the Bareilly-to-Moradabad stretch in Uttar Pradesh. The second trial run will be conducted on the Palwal-to-Mathura section of the North-Central Railway. The third trial run will be conducted on the Delhi-Mumbai section. 

27.5.2016 The Fourth batch of 25 declassified files relating to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose released online on web portal http://www.netajipapers.gov.in/ . This batch of 25 files consists of 05 files from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), 04 files from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and 16 files from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)pertaining to the period 1968 to 2008. First lot of 100 files relating to Netaji, were put in the public domain by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on 23 January 2016, on the occasion of the 119th birth anniversary of Netaji.  The second lot of 50 files and third lot of 25 files were released on 29 March, 2016 and 29 April, 2016 respectively.

16.5.2016 To enhance the ‘ease of doing business’ in construction sector, Ministry of Urban Development has asked 13 more cities with airports to enable integrated Online approval of Building Plans during the current financial year. These 13 cities are among the 15 cities for which the Airports Authority of India has evolved Colour Coded Zoning Maps for according ‘No Objection Certificates’ in respect of height of construction projects. The other two cities viz., Delhi and Mumbai have already enabled Online approvals based on a Common Application Form.

2.5.2016; The National Perspective Plans OF April 2016, prepared under Sagarmala Project of the Ministry of Shipping has identified more than 150 projects across the areas of port modernization AND new port development, port connectivity port-led industrialization and coastal community development.

2.5.2016 Cleaning of River Ganga; 41 Sewage treatment plants development / rehabilitation under 34 projects, having total capacity of 808.23 mld, have been sanctioned in the Ganga Basin States since inception of NGRBA Programme.

Out of the project sanctioned since inception of NGRBA Programme, 6 STPs have been completed and created a total treatment Capacity of 126.50 MLD as on 29/02/2016 as per the following details:

i) Numayadahi, Allahabad : 50mld ii) Naini, Allahabad : 20 mld iii) Kodra, Allahabad : 25 mld iv) Ponghat, Allahabad :10 mld v) Sarai, Haridwar : 18 mld vi) Tapovan, Tehri : 3.5 mld

In addition to above 681.73 MLD capacity of STPs are at different stages of construction.

15.4.2016 First time in India, the road transport ministry has asked state governments and agencies like NHAI, state PWDs and BRO to remove all speed breakers from highways, which hinder smooth movement of traffic apart from being a safety hazard on high-speed corridors. According to the Road Accident Report (2014), published by the ministry, 4,726 lives were lost in crashes due to humps while 6,672 people died in accidents caused due to potholes and speed breakers.

1.4.2016 Under Modi govt, for first time since independence, Home loans have started becoming cheaper. In December 2015 Reserve Bank of India announced new rules on lending rates. Rates are now based on the 'marginal cost of funds'. In other words, banks have to routinely calculate their cost of funds and any change has to be passed on to borrowers by revising their benchmark. This is called the marginal cost of lending rate (MCLR).

 

31.3.2016 Prices of 103 medicines, including those used for treating HIV/AIDS, bacterial infections, tuberculosis, high blood pressure, epilepsy, hepatitis C and diabetes, will become cheaper with NPPA fixing their ceiling prices. 13.1.2016 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today has approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ - a path breaking scheme for farmers’ welfare.  The highlights of this scheme are as under:

i) There will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5%. The premium rates to be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the Government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on account of natural calamities.

ii) There is no upper limit on Government subsidy. Even if balance premium is 90%, it will be borne by the Government.

iii) Earlier, there was a provision of capping the premium rate which resulted in low claims being paid to farmers. This capping was done to limit Government outgo on the premium subsidy. This capping has now been removed and farmers will get claim against full sum insured without any reduction.

iv) The use of technology will be encouraged to a great extent. Smart phones will be used to capture and upload data of crop cutting to reduce the delays in claim payment to farmers. Remote sensing will be used to reduce the number of crop cutting experiments.

The new Crop Insurance Scheme is in line with One Nation – One Scheme theme.

Budget a targets or a vision statement with continued target achievement over next 5 years towards following;-

" (i) A roof for each family in India. The call given for ‘Housing for all’ by 2022 would require Team India to complete 2 crore houses in urban areas and 4 crore houses in rural areas.

(ii) Each house in the country should have basic facilities of 24-hour power supply, clean drinking water, a toilet, and be connected to a road.

(iii) At least one member from each family should have access to the means for livelihood and, employment or economic opportunity, to improve his or her lot.

(iv) Substantial reduction of poverty. All our schemes should focus on and center around the poor. Each of us has to commit ourselves to this task of eliminating absolute poverty.

(v) Electrification, by 2020, of the remaining 20,000 villages in the country, including by off-grid solar power generation.

(vi) Connecting each of the 1,78,000 unconnected habitations by all weather roads. This will require completing 1,00,000 km of roads currently under construction plus sanctioning and building another 1,00,000 km of road.

(vii) Good health is a necessity for both quality of life, and a person’s productivity and ability to support his or her family. Providing medical services in each village and city is absolutely essential.

(viii) Educating and skilling our youth to enable them to get employment is the altar before which we must all bow. To ensure that there is a senior secondary school within 5 km reach of each child, we need to upgrade over 80,000 secondary schools and add or upgrade 75,000 junior/middle, to the senior secondary level. We also have to ensure that education improves in terms of quality and learning outcomes.

(ix) Increase in agricultural productivity and realization of reasonable prices for agricultural production is essential for the welfare of rural areas. We should commit to increasing the irrigated area, improving the efficiency of existing irrigation systems, promoting agro-based industry for value addition and increasing farm incomes, and reasonable prices for farm produce.

(x) In terms of communication, the rural and urban divide should no longer be acceptable to us. We have to ensure connectivity to all the villages without it.

(xi) Two-thirds of our population is below 35. To ensure that our young get proper jobs, we have to aim to make India the manufacturing hub of the world. The Skill India and the Make in India programmes are aimed at doing this.

(xii) We also have to encourage and grow the spirit of entrepreneurship in India and support new start-ups. Thus can our youth turn from being job-seekers, to job-creators.

(xiii) The Eastern and North Eastern regions of our country are lagging behind in development on many fronts. We need to ensure that they are on par with the rest of the country.

Every developmental, pro poor and pro people project passes through 4 stages i) generating an idea (planning) ii) feasibility study (whether it will result in desired benefits to people. whether it can be accomplished, how it can be accomplished and what would be required for it to be accomplished including fund requirement etc) iii) sanction and review by experts and GOP, iv) execution stage.
